What is Exchange Online?
Exchange Online is the cloud version of Exchange Server On Premise. Exchange is the email server service and allows corporate users to access email, calendar, contacts, and task management via Outlook, mobile devices, or a web browser. With the cloud-based variant of Exchange Server, Microsoft offers a very high availability of 99.9%, compliance management and numerous protection features against spam, malware, phishing and viruses. With the 99.9% availability, Microsoft guarantees that the service may fail for a maximum of 8h 45m 56s per year. Such availability can be achieved with the classic Exchange Server only with very high effort.
Exchange Online is a SaaS solution (Software as a Service). This means that Microsoft takes care of the maintenance, operation and errors of the servers. Support for technical errors is provided free of charge by Microsoft or a CSP like us. The subscription is either a standalone service Exchange Online Plan 1 or Exchange Online Plan 2 or already included in one of the Microsoft / Office 365 editions. The differences between the editions are explained here. The basic features of Plan 1 and Plan 2 do not differ. There is another Exchang plan, Exchange Online Kiosk. Exchange Online Kiosk provides the same services as in Plan 1 or 2 with the difference that the emails can only be accessed via tablet, smartphone or web browser. Kioks is therefore suitable for people who do not work at a computer, e.g. for mechanics.
